Summary Of Today's Meeting

Hey everyone, I took some notes at todays meeting so for all of those who couldn't make it here is a record of what happened:

Nogol laid down the law for all of us with her schedule for the next 10 or so weeks. I'll get her to post it here soon so we all have that as reference. It looks busy but if we can get a move on while the semester is relatively easy we won't be stuck with a whole cartoon to do when crunch time hits. So let's keep chugging, the momentum right now is great!

We had a good brainstorming session where we were able to finalize the storyline. Salman came up with a simple and sweet story arch that everyone in attendance agreed was interesting and left potential for some funny moments.

The conflict: The child character is completely disinterested in candy which, in contrast, is his Grandpa's life long passion. Convinced that no child should be with out the great love of sugar Gramp's drags the kid on a crazy romp through the Candy Bayou, trying to teach him about the beauty of candy.

As the story progresses the kid gets increasingly frustrated refusing. The grossness of the candy bayou only makes him detest candy more.

The Climax: Finally the kid has had enough of the Grandpa and starts shouting at him, but just as the kid is at the peak of his explosion the grandpa shoves a piece of candy in the kids mouth.

The Resolution: There is a change of expression on the kid as his mouth is filled with the wonders of this new world, and he realizes that he actually loves candy. The grandpa and child bond. Everyone is happy, a beautiful relationship is made in amidst the muck of the Candy Bayou.

  1. Did anyone take notes of the gags? Hopefully there was enough to compile a list. If not, we should make one to draw on during the writing process. This basically needs to happen tonight or tomorrow because that's all we have.

  2. I can do it tomorrow, I'm on my way to Adam's house right now for dinner and a sleep over. How about after Rick's class tomorrow? Does that sound good? We can grab brandon too, because he seemed to interested in the writing process!

    No I didn't take notes on that.... which was dumb. I can remember the jokes Roger suggested.. But i think ken had a couple that have now slipped my mind.

  3. Here's an Idea Barney shot out to me, I think it's pretty funny.

    Bman-
    "Kid could even be eating carrots or something at the start. Possibly mother is in the kitchen and grandpa steals the kid away to the bayou. Kid could even during his freakout start trying things just to show grandpa how he doesn't like it. ie: sucks on lollipop, chews chocolate hobo, etc, then freaks out and loves it like was said. Then ends up home with his mom, and all his teeth are rotten as fuck in his ending smile. "

  4. I'll try to make some then. Please include any that you don't find all that funny as well. There are no "bad ideas" just ideas that we haven't found a place for yet.

    One important part of the design process is storing away any idea you have because it may come in handy later. We can rate ideas for potentiality/relevancy as we go.

  5. I'll slip Barney's into a list. Maybe we can send out an e-mail to the entire class and get some quickly that way? We'll just say we need them by tomorrow morning.

  6. Rogers Ideas as best I can remember;

    1. We have a shot of the kid in the foreground and gramps in the bg walking through the swamp as Gramps describes the forest. In the background gramps keeps doing messed up things like grabbing lawyers and putting bags over there heads, stabbing them to death and tossing them into the swamp. (not specifically that example, but messed up stuff like that. The humour comes in the oblivousness of the kid, who maybe looks back every once and while only to have just missed the disturbing acts of the granpa).

    2. There is candy in dead animal carcasses and the kid is so excited about eating it he totally doesn't even notice the carnage around him as he devours the food.

  7. Some Ideas I had;

    1. The 1 Beer Deer. He drinks one beer and gets so drunk he vomits out a bunch of candy.

    2. Kinder Egg Surprise. What is a Kinder? And what is it's surprise? (this is more of an idea provoking question).

    In general it might be funny to think of some popular candys and see how we could parody them.

  8. Oh also I thought it might be funny to have a farmer called Farmer Joe that looks like this.

  9. I just thought of this... The grandpa could be in a wheel chair which he jumps out of during really excited speeches about the candy bayou. Or maybe he jumps out of it at the climax. I don't know. There's something interesting we could do there I'm sure.

  10. Okay I sent out a call for gags on facebook. I don't think your on there so I guess you won't see the message. Hopefully people respond.

  11. Nope, not on there. I do have an account I created for my story-boarding group so I suppose I could befriend you on that account so I can see the candy bayou group though. lol, it's so hard to stay away from Facebook when you are in college.

  12. One gag I thought of is at the beginning grampa could throw his teeth at the kid out of digust for not liking candy or to get attention. He would later pull another set out of his pocket.

    On Idea Rafa said is that maybe if we go with the magic fade in then every time we go somewhere new Grampa would be wearing something new so by the end he would look rediculous. If this happens I proposed that grampa says "lets dive into the knowledge of candy" or something like that then puts on water wings, dives in then cut to just his arms staying above the water with bubbbles coming up. We would hold until bubbles stop.

  13. here is what i thought(it kinda follows the previous ideas) :the kid and the grampa are sitting at the table with a big plate of vegetables in front of them..the kid is well behaved and is having some carrots or cellary sticks,the granmp is the silly one and tries to convince the kid to have some candy ,especially when the mother turns around to get something from the fridge or cook something on the stove ...finally the grampa decides to steal the kid from the kitchen and drags him to show him the candy bayou...every time he wants to show him another part of the bayou,he drags the poor kid (the scene changes here)and the kid falls down maybe in the swamp where the snails make candy,or falls down from top of a tree ,where the disgusting bird lays candy eggs..

  14. Think about how the grandpa could exit the room too if they're in the kitchen or wherever. Maybe he jams the kid into the drawer, and then jumps in too while the mother is not looking, or some other strange way of exiting to go visit the bayou. Like the gag of throwing teeth! Nice.
